Christian Meditation Questions & Answers

What is Christian meditation?

Christian Meditation is a time to prayerfully contemplate God’s Word, His nature, abilities, and works.
It helps you focus on the things of God. Christian meditation awakens your senses, so you can fully experience God. It helps you quite your soul so you can hear God’s voice.

What are the benefits of Christian meditation?

• Christian meditation helps you connect to God, in a deeper more intimate way.
• It fosters a close attachment with Jesus, and a greater sensitivity to the Holy Spirit.
• It creates an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, that reduces stress and anxiety.
•.It transforms your thought life, by directing your focus to the goodness and faithfulness of God.

Is meditation Biblical?

Christian meditation is found in the Bible. In fact, the Bible commands us to meditate.
• Joshua 1:8 – Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it.
• Psalm 77:10 – I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds.
• Psalm 145:5 On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.

Biblical mediation is about engaging our minds and connecting to God’s word, His attributes, works and deeds. There are other meditative practices, that should be avoided. These include, transcendental, new age, dynamic, centering, focusing, and anything that omits Jesus as the focus. Exercises like these are not in line with Scripture and in my opinion, open one to demonic presence. These practices direct you to empty your mind and detached from thoughts and images. Christian meditation is not about detachment, but rather attachment to Father God, Jesus and Holy Spirit.

Is it God, or just my imagination?

It’s your imagination connected to the mind and heart of God. God created you with an imagination so you can dream, visualize, and contemplate God’s purposes for you. Your imagination is the part of you where you conceive things. Conception precedes giving birth. If you can’t see it with your imagination on the inside, you won’t be able to actualize it, on the outside. Christian meditation creates an atmosphere that inspires you to glorify ( value and prize ) God with your imagination. When you glorify God, you experience God.

The imaginations and thoughts of the human heart can be negative or ungodly. Genesis 6:5 – “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually”. Christian meditation destroys negative thoughts by directing your focus to the faithfulness, righteousness and majesty of God. When you contemplate on the wonder and goodness of God, feelings of gratitude, expectation and joy begin to ignite inside you, and negative thoughts and emotions are replaced with expectancy of God’s faithfulness. What should I focus on while meditating?Christian Meditation Questions and Answers

Center your eyes on Jesus, His attributes and the work of His hand. Avoid focusing on health, troubles, lack, and  negative thoughts. “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” – Philippians 4:8

How can I stop my mind from wandering while meditating?

If your mind starts to wander, refocus, and fasten your thoughts on Jesus. If you are meditating to an audio meditation, you can track with the words or story, but when Jesus makes Himself known to you, engage and connect with Him. He is the prize! My meditation stories, are doorway’s into God’s presence. They are tools that create an environment of rest so that you can easily connect with God, in a deeper, more intimate way.

Christian Meditation Questions and Answers

What if I’m too busy to meditate?

Your too busy not to meditate. (I should take my own advice! lol) Remember The story of Mary and Martha? Mary, attentively, sat at the feet of Jesus, immersed in Him, and His message. But Martha was distracted with much serving… and Jesus said to her, “Martha, Martha, (he had to say her name twice because she probably wasn’t listening!) you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” – Luke 10:40
Meditating on God’s word is that one thing that helps us enter the mind of Christ and connect to His heart, more deeply. It is the “good part”. Meditation is good for you, and when you slow down, and choose to rest in God’s presence, while meditating on his word, it activates the power of God within you. Joshua 1:8 Revelation and power is released when we hear the Word of God and meditate on it.

Isn’t guided imagery a new age thing?

It can be, depending on the heart, mind, and spiritual condition, of the writer. New age meditation is a counterfeit of what God intended for us, through Biblical meditation. New age writers are not focused on the attributes and glory of God, but rather on subjects such as, energy, light and self or universal power. The imagery in my Christian meditations are similar to picturing a parable (talk story) or serene place that was created by God. The focus from beginning to end is about being in a heavenly place, where God is present, asking him questions, and hearing him clearly.

We should be careful to examine everything before we meditate on it. Proverbs 4:23 – Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. I always research a writers source. I want to know who or what is their God? I only read, soak or meditate to material that is in line with Scripture, and written by someone who’s source is Holy Spirit, (Jesus).

1 john 4:1 – Test every spirit to see whether they are from God. Be watchful and discerning. The Lord will give you a “check” in your spirit, if something is off. He will also “quicken” you, when something is divine and of God. Jesus taught with parables (talk stories). There are 46 Parables in the New Testament. My Christian meditation stories, are parables and visuals about the glory, majesty and wonderful works of God.

Why do I feel uneasy about trying meditation?Christian Meditation Questions and Answers

If you are practicing Eastern meditation, or any kind of meditation that is not focused on Jesus Christ, than you are opening the door to demonic influence. 2 Corinthians 11:14 – “Satan disguises himself as an angel of light”. Fear is a manifestation of the kingdom of darkness.
Satan will use fear, to prevent you from things that will draw you closer to God. If you are uneasy about meditating to a Christian meditation, that is focused on Jesus Christ, you may be uniformed about which kind of meditation is from God and what kind is not.

Are you fearful of being misled by the enemy? This is where using your God given discernment comes in. If you have asked Jesus Christ to come and live, reign inside of you, and be your God, then you have the mind of Christ.- 1 Corinthians 2:16. The Holy Spirit within you, will teach you all things.- John 14:26.
Jesus says, “my sheep hear my voice, I know them and they follow me.” – John 10:27. God will show you the way of life. – Psalm 16:11.
If you are struggling with fear, consider the album, “Soul Soaking; Sozo for the Soul.” This will help you identify the root of the fear, and teach you how to eliminate it.

What happens if I fall asleep during a Christian meditation?

You might fall asleep, and if you do, it’s ok. God’s word will wash over you, while you sleep. Many people have reported healing of insomnia, while using my meditation CD’s, as a sleep aid. When you listen to one of my Christian Meditations, you will be able to clear negativity from your mind, letting go of problems and stresses that have weighed you down. Deep rest will follow, and you can expect a deep, and peaceful nights sleep.• Be intentional about making an appointment to meet with God.

How should I prepare myself to encounter God through meditation?

• Remove distractions. Turn off the TV and phone.
• Be like a child in your approach to God.
• Invite Holy Spirit to come, and minister to you.
• Be hopeful and expectant.
• Quiet your self before the Lord.
• Put aside your list of wants and needs, and ask him to reveal his heart to you.
• Do as Samuel did in 1st Samuel 3:9; Lie down on the floor and say, “speak now Lord for your servant is listening.”                                                                                       Samuel heard the audible voice of God say his name 3 times and he received his first prophetic word.
